Amy Vendittis is the owner of Talk Time Speech Therapy. She is a Montgomery County, MD based Speech-Language Pathologist with twenty years of experience evaluating and treating children with speech and language disorders. Amy received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from University of Maryland. After, she received a master’s  degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Montclair State University.  Amy began her career working in a private school for children with autism and special needs. She then worked for Montgomery County Public Schools as a school-based speech pathologist. Amy has extensive experience in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating articulation disorders, stuttering, language disorders, and social skills. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and a state license in Maryland.

Amy has been trained in orofacial myofunctional disorders. She was trained in the program Simon Says for Tongue Thrust and Thumb Sucking Elimination (Tongue Tips and Thumbs Up).

SIMON SAYS PROGRAMS

Tongue Tips: An Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy Program

This program is designed to retrain the muscles of the face and tongue for proper posture within the mouth. It works to correct the swallowing motion and any speech sound errors that have been identified. This program incorporates a variety of exercises that stimulate different muscles that are associated with a tongue thrust. Each exercise is accompanied by an icon that explains which muscle group you will be working on.

During each session your speech therapist will work with you to ensure you are completing each exercise correctly. These exercises are proven to eliminate tongue thrusts, correct speech articulation errors, improve overall health, and increase the self-confidence of our patients. With consistent commitment to this program, you will achieve success!

Tiny Tongue Tips: An Early Intervention Myofunctional Therapy Program

This play-based program focuses on teaching children proper oral and facial postures at rest, during speech, and while swallowing. It aims to reestablish nasal breathing which has been linked to better overall health. With proper oral and facial postures, problematic symptoms – such as chewing/ swallowing difficulties, speech sound errors, snoring/ sleep apnea, and persistent oral habits – become easier to treat.

Our Process

When you call Talk Time, it’s possible that you will reach our answering service. This is because we are out doing what we love, treating children! Rest assured that your call will be returned within 24 hours and we will guide you through the intake process. You will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns and learn all the ways in which we can provide services to your child.

It is also appreciated that you email us the initial evaluation any paperwork (i.e. IEPs, evaluation, progress reports etc.) that you may have for your child from other facilities.

Once all the necessary paperwork is submitted, an evaluation will be scheduled.

The initial appointment usually takes place in your home or at your child’s school and will begin with a brief consultation with the treating therapist. This provides you an opportunity to express concerns and ask questions. Following this meeting, the therapist will begin the evaluation process which includes standardized assessments and clinical observation of your child. We want your child to be comfortable and have fun!  We use games, toys and other activities to engage your child during the evaluation. An evaluation typically takes 1-2 one hour sessions for us to complete.  At that time, we will make recommendations. You will receive a copy of the evaluation report. If therapy is recommended, ongoing appointments will be scheduled at this time.
